Guidelines for proper net installation to achieve standard dimensions

1. Tensioning the Width

Before installation, accurately determine the net’s width and length to ensure the correct tensioning direction.

  • Position the net at the installation site

  • Secure one side of the width firmly to the frame

  • Stretch the net along the width according to the specified manufacturing dimensions

  • Check the tension and all anchor points before proceeding

Note:
Do not overstretch the width beyond the specified size. Excessive stretching will reduce the actual length of the net, leading to deviations from standard dimensions.

2. Tensioning the Length

After completing the width tensioning, proceed with the length.

  • Fix both longitudinal edges of the net to steel cables or a pre-tensioned frame system

  • Use net stitching or appropriate fastening methods for securing

  • Stretch each mesh evenly to reach the designed extension

  • Secure immediately after tensioning each section to prevent shrink-back

Due to material properties, the net tends to contract. Therefore, tension and fix progressively until the entire length is completed.

3. Notes for Safety Nets and Oval Mesh Nets

This process applies to various types of technical netting, especially construction safety nets.

Due to oval or diagonal mesh structures, the mesh may shift during packaging, transportation, or installation. Proper tensioning is therefore essential.

Example of incorrect installation:

Standard net size: 4m × 50m = 200m²

If the width is only stretched to: 3.5m

The length may extend to approximately: 57m

The total area remains around 200m², but the actual dimensions no longer match the original specifications.

Correct approach:
Ensure the full standard width of 4m is achieved before fixing. The length will then align with the designed 50m.

4. Checking Dimensions by Mesh Count

In addition to overall measurements, dimensions can be verified by mesh count:

  • Count the number of meshes along a 4m width
    → Standard: approximately 143 – 148 meshes / 4m

  • Measure the length of 10 meshes in a natural (unstretched) state
    → Standard: approximately 33 – 38 cm

Conclusion

Proper tensioning of both width and length according to manufacturing specifications ensures correct dimensions, uniform tension, load-bearing performance, and long-term durability. Even small deviations during initial installation can significantly affect the final dimensions and performance of the net.
